Low carb (beanless) chili

I am a huge fan of chili, whether it is a white chicken chili,  a sweet chili, chili con carne, or a southwest style chili, I love it. But how do you eat it when on a low carb diet like keto?

You adjust the recipe!

This Keto Chili is the perfect comfort food, it is easy to make, not loaded with carbs, but gives you all the flavors you love from a traditional chili.  When you are looking for an extra heaping of heartiness accompanied with a great depth of flavor, this is the chili for you.  Make this keto chili recipe on a night that you want to leave the table happy and full.

Can You Have Chili On A Low Carb Diet?

A lot of chilis are not considered low carb or keto friendly because of the use of beans. And beans, while offering many other benefits, being low in carbs is not one of them. However, the good news is, you do have options, even if you don't want the carbs! My keto chill recipe is great for a low carb diet.

I have carefully created a ground beef chili recipe that contains no beans, leaving out the carbohydrates produced from the beans, without losing the rich and hearty goodness that chili has to offer.

Can You Eat Kidney Beans on Keto?

When you think of chili you tend to think of kidney beans as a main ingredient.  However, if you are following a keto diet, kidney beans are not an approved food source due to their high carb content.

Because of the high carb content in kidney beans, there are no kidney beans in my keto chili recipe.

But don't worry, you will not miss the kidney beans in this chili recipe.  My keto chili is packed with flavor and filling ingredients.

Is Chili a Keto Friendly Meal?

Chili can be keto friendly if you are conscious with the choice of ingredients used.  Meat, tomatoes, and most spices are all keto friendly. As already mentioned, beans are not.

The good news is that my keto chili is packed with so many hearty ingredients that the beans are not even needed to make this chili recipe complete.

How Do You Make Good Homemade Chili?

I really like my keto chili recipe because there is a good use of spices, ingredients, and time spent slow cooking the chili that helps meld the flavors together.  These components are necessary in order to make the best recipe for chili.

How Do You Make The Best Chili Ever?

  • Good use of spices
  • Time allotted for flavors to simmer together
  • Hearty ingredients

What Ingredients Go Into Chili?

Most chili recipes have some similar base ingredients like tomatoes, meat, beans, and spices.

I've taken that foundation for my keto chili, ditched the carb heavy beans, and added some additional ingredients to offer some extra pizazz that really make this dish a party in your mouth.

My keto chili is loaded with so many hearty treasures.  Not only is there ground beef, but there is the added bonus of ground spicy sausage, which really adds to the heartiness of the dish.

There is also some celery. However, you could also use green bell peppers!

Additionally there is a generous use of great spices like chili powder, cumin, and garlic to name just a few and a splash of Worcestershire sauce.

This dish has a great wealth of flavor. And because it cooks in a slow cooker or crock pot, it makes it an amazing choice.

Ingredients in Keto Chili:

  • Beef and Sausage
  • Tomatoes and Other Vegetables (red onion, celery, etc. but you could also use other veggies, just choose low carb options).
  • Spices and More Spices
  • Worcestershire sauce or Coconut Aminos

Add The Fat

This chili is low carb, to make it keto friendly you have to up the amount of fat! The best way to do this is to add a fat source you like best. This can be done with cheese, sour cream, avocado, etc. Pick your favorite fat and add it!
